Description

Kinder Scout is the highest mountain in the Peak District. Although this walk does not go to the actual summit, it takes in views of the Southern edge of Kinder Scout as well as other well-known Peak District hills such as Winn Hill, Bleaklow and Lords Seat. Skylarks, curlew and geese are among some of the birds that can be spotted, adders and newts have been seen. Kinder Scout is also famous as being the site of the 1932 mass trespass which paved the way for the formation of the Peak District as the Uk’s first national park and led to access rights being given to walkers. This route is one of the quickest ways to the top of Kinder, going from the village of Edale up Ringing Roger, along the Edge path, across Grindsbrook and down Grindslow Knoll.

  • Length: 7 miles circular route
  • Total ascent: 560 meters
  • Estimated time: 3 -4 hours
  • Difficulty rating 4 / 5 – some scrambling is needed to get to the top of Ringing Roger, though this can be avoided by taking an alternative path.

Meeting point: Edale Car park, S33 7ZL – not there is no phone signal in the village of Edale, trains regularly run from Sheffield and Manchester to Edale train station which is next to the car park.
